Gday everyone was sitting waiting to turn left on my way home today when a bloke in a Toyota hilux ute decided I had already gone and drove straight into me. I'm ok besides a sore leg . The bike not so good Have put in a claim . I try to be as defensive as possible but this guy just came at me from behind . If anyone has any ideas on how to avoid this type of crash I'd appreciate it. Regards to you all Freebird

Bad news Freebird, hope you and your bird have a speedy recovery.

As for avoiding those situations (your left turn is like my right turn) always weary of what is behind me. Try and have an exit plan worked out just in case - not always possible.

I know it is difficult but look on the bright side - could have been worse for you and you'll be riding again soon enough.

I guess you where at lights when stopped ? Hope you get sorted soonish. Bad shit.

Trouble is you can be the best rider on full alert - but you can't defend agianst idiots. I try and position myself so a car from behind might just get the chance to avoid me at the last second so I stay more to the left (curbside). Also I give plenty of room infront just incase I get puhed.

All the best to you mate.

no good mate, hope your back on two wheels soon, as has been said you can take all the precautions and shit will still happen
unfortunately riding is alot more unforgiving than driving when dickheads are involved.

Hope you get it all sorted soon. The only way to avoid idiots like that is to develop clairvoyant talents and even then seeing it coming might not even help much.

That's a bummer Andrew, glad you are ok though, bikes can be fixed or replaced. Not much you can do about dickheads especially those from behind. Is the Bird still rideable?

Tich and I went over to TM Virginia today to see Mike and on the way we had a close one with a van, not indicating and changing into our lane, and the bloody thing had a wheelchair sticker on it.

I'm really glad that I don't have to ride in peak hour any more, there are so many crap drivers around nowadays.

Skeene design flicker/flashing lights - they make them for the front and the back. They are annoying enough to force people to notice you, but not quite offensive. Google it, they'll save your life. I also have a rearview camera. I got one of these after I narrowly avoided being rear ended in my car by some kid watching porn on his phone as traffic came to an unexpected stop. I managed to swerve away and he slammed the guy who was in front of me. The phone ended up on the road still playing the vid. It occurred to me that if I was on my bike I never would have seen him coming (have fun with that one). Get one of those off of ebay - they work a treat and I'll never go without one.

Thanks Lee I think you are right about peak hour they are totally feral.i will be avoiding it in future. The bike isn't really rideable because the right hand footpeg assembly is all broken . The insurance assessor is due to come tommorow I'll let you know how it goes . I just bought a set of shorty mufflers of Thunderat fitted them Friday Am by Friday pm the right hand exhaust completely stuffed . Wouldn't that rot your socks. My mate Baz loaned me his storm today did a 260 k ride before lunch made me feel a bit better. I like the storm too nice bike.

And those insurance guys are the best in the world when it comes to stalling a job. Some knucklehead knocked my VFR over and I was 6 weeks without it. The work on the bike only took one and a half days to complete.

See if you can get the shop to swap them back - should only be a 10 min job Will put some aside just in case though. I won't profit out of your misfortune.

Ok Lee you've caught me red handed . I have purchased an M 109 . I am putting a case to the boss to let me keep the T Bird . I'll have to be on my best behavior and put my dirty cloths in the basket , stop burping and farting it's going to be tuff. If I keep the bird it will be one up only I'm going to sell saddle bags touring seat etc.

Well mate, I hope you enjoy riding that tank, I know they are value, but man to me they are an ugly beast and I have yet to hear one with a decent exhaust note. Each to his own though, happy 109ing.

I agree with you Lee the T bird is a beautiful bike and the 109 is a very different kind of bike . But boy the m 109 travels well a beautiful distance covering machine , we've done about 800 k on her now very happy. If you havnt taken one for a spin you should take that demo out at springwood they just handed me the keys and said away you go Seeya when you get back . I've sold the icons and the touring seat to members on here I've still got the saddle bags with easy brackets and the dart screen ,have had some interest but not sold yet .

Hi Mate, OH dear, what have you done? A friend of mine bought a 109 and 18 months later with 5oookms and as new condition couldn,t get more than $8500 so ended up keeping it, he was very disgusted, they dont hold their price like triumphs, harleys , ducatis etc, hope you intend keeping it for a long time....
I,ve ridden 3 of em now, heaps of power and thats about it for me, not really impressed,,,,Sweet talk the lady and keep the bird hehehe, hope all ends ok for you, cheers, Tadpole

I have no doubt that they have long legs and probably much more comfy a ride than the Bird, it's just that whatever I ride or drive has to impress me with certain criteria, looks being the first on the list, the 109 just doesn't cut it for me, but that's ok. I will still talk to you .........................................well only when you are on the Bird.

Thanks for your concern on the m109 front fellas. I do intend to keep the 109 long term . I've had nothing but bad luck with the bird as much as I love it . The bird has some faults that prevented me from purchasing another one . If you had said to me a couple of months ago I would be riding a boulevard I would have said you were on drugs. But there you are life is unpredictable .

Andrew,
A mate I go riding with has one . He has added the V& H Slash Cut exhausts , lowered the back and he is like a dog with two tails.
I have ridden it a few times......heaps of power , only a five speed box....you have to watch it going around roundabouts .
He loves it but my positioning on the bike makes me look like a monkey fucking a beach ball.
Good for a squirt now and then......but i love my Bird.
Hope you have heaps of enjoyment with it.

Rob
